The village of Sant’Ilario lies near Monte Cascioli and is crossed by Via Vecchia Pisana leading to the hamlet of San Romolo a Settimo. The village’s setting is that of ancient houses and towers, where contained urban development has not affected the surrounding area.
First evidence of its existence can be found in documents dating back to the mid-13th century. The village grew up around the church of Sant’Ilario a Settimo (12th century) from which it took its name. Initially in the hands of the Rinucci family of Florence, it later passed to the Tigliamochi family.
