Tuscany is one of the most important wine regions in the world. As regards the reds, it is known primarily for Chianti, Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is instead its most renowned white wine.
The main grape variety is Sangiovese. It is used to make the majority of Tuscan red wines, of which 39 are DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) and 11 DOCG (controlled and guaranteed designation of origin).
Chianti dei Colli Fiorentini is produced in the countryside of Lastra. This wine requires a longer aging period and is made from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Red and White Malvasia. The Colli Fiorentini wine is an every-day wine. It has a lively red colour and aromas of fruit and spices.
The production zone extends over the hills of Florence and encompasses the countrysides of Montelupo Fiorentino, Fiesole, Signa, Scandicci, Impruneta, Bagno a Ripoli, Rignano sull’Arno, Pontassieve and Lastra a Signa.
