The Palazzo del Podestà is located near the tabernacle, in Via dell’Arione.
According to tradition, the emblems of the Podestà (chief magistrates) who governed Lastra are attached on the facade of the two-story building.
Fine frescoes can still be seen inside the palace. One in particular depicts the Madonna with Saints Michael, Peter, Martin and Stephen. It is dated early 15th century and attributed to a painter of the Florentine school who trained with Bicci di Lorenzo. The City Hall houses a panel painting of the same subject, brought from the palace. It is a work of a late-16th-century Florentine painter who drew inspiration from Michele di Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.
The latest restoration projects concerned other interesting frescoes, which decorate the interiors and the exterior of the side of the building, carried out between the 15th and 17th century.
